There are many ways to describe them but whatever you
choose to call them, it is imperative that you see them
coming or you will be hurt by their unexpected arrival.
This is true of ocean waves, economic trends or demographic
shifts. We are living in the midst of a titanic demographic
shift. For years, we have been hearing about the growing
number of Hispanics. We have heard a variety of future
dates at which point Hispanics will be the largest minority
group in our country. That time is now and it has arrived
sooner than expected.” Rev.
Abel Morales It is imperative that our leaders,
not just Hispanic leaders, come together to help us
address this monumental opportunity. We need theologians,
textual scholars, sociologist, pastoral counselors,
missionaries, and other gifted leaders to help us solve
this puzzle.”
According
to Dr. Jesse Miranda, president of the National alliance
of Evangelical Ministers (AMEN), “Hispanics account
for almost all recent growth in evangelical churches,
even in predominantly black and Anglo congregations.
Rapid growth among Evangelical Hispanics is both a joy
and a threat for the future Hispanic church. It is a
joy as hundreds of thousands of Hispanics experience
new spiritual vitality and relationship with God. It
is a threat to the future church if the present church
is unable to disciple and incorporate the new believers
who are looking for spiritual guidance. The cry from
the Hispanic church- . . . – is for Hispanic leadership
that is prepared for the multicultural
“The Hispanic Churches Cry is for Leadership”
ministry required in the United States. In the Evangelical
Protestant churches across the country the rapid conversion
of Hispanics is causing an even greater pressure to
quickly develop effective leadership. Ministry in the
Hispanic communities across the United States needs
to be multiplied many times over. One area of preparation
for such a multiplication is that of leadership development
for Spanish-speaking pastors and church leaders who
are already called and committed to leading the church
but who lack the tools they need for long-term success.”
